Worship briefs: St. John’s ‘Get On Track’ fundraiser

“Get On Track” will take place at St. John’s Lutheran Church and the north field track at 3521 Linda Vista Ave. today, with open ceremonies at 12:15 p.m.

More than 300 students from St. John’s Lutheran School in Napa will participate in the event. Each class will donate 25 percent of its pledge money to an organization “adopted” by their class. For more information or to donate pledges, call the school office at 226-7970./Register

PUC Seventh-day Adventist Church
The second of a series of “God Whopper” sermons, “God Puts Religion First, People Second,” will be presented at worship services at 8:45 and 11:15 a.m. Saturday, by Senior Pastor Tim Mitchell at the Pacific Union College Seventh-day Adventist Church, 1 Angwin Ave., Angwin. At the 10 a.m. Bible study portion of the church’s Saturday services, students living in the Newton men’s residence hall on the college campus will present “In the Beginning,” a study of the first chapter of Genesis. Family Worship Pastor Norma Osborn has announced that on Oct. 29, at 2 p.m., a vegetarian cooking class will be presented by Debi Pederson, co-author of the “Easy Oven Cookbook.” The class will include demonstrations, tasting, recipes and book signing. Unitarians to consider seventh principle

Shelley Page, a third year student at Starr King School for the Ministry in Berkeley, will speak on the seventh Unitarian Universalist principle — the interdependent web — on Sunday at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of the North Bay. Page spent almost 30 years in corporate and nonprofit marketing and communications before studying for the ministry. Napa Valley Center for Spiritual Living

“Stories of Wind,” featuring Ash Dargan, Australia’s premier didgeridoo performer, will be presented at Napa Valley Center For Spiritual Living, 1249 Coombs St., Napa, at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 22.

National Day of Healing

Crosspointe Community Church

The “we knows” of Christian believers is the topic as the church studies John’s first letter on Sunday mornings. Sunday services begin at 9:30 a.m. with light, contemporary worship. Child care is provided from nursery through fifth grade. The youth group meets Tuesdays at 7 p.m. for study, games and fellowship.

Napa First Presbyterian Church

The history and development of Christianity will be the topic of a six-week video lecture series at the Napa First Presbyterian Church little chapel. The series is held Wednesdays through Nov. 15 from 6:45 to 9 p.m. Enter at Third and Randolph streets. There is no charge.

The lecturer is Dr. Luke Timothy Johnson, professor of New Testament and Christian origins, Emory University. He has many published books and articles to his credit and has received several awards for his teaching excellence.

Celebrate Recovery

A Christian-based program called “Celebrate Recovery” addresses hurts, habits, hang-ups and addictions; the purpose is to use God’s healing power. Celebrate Recovery, a one-year program, helps to develop spiritual maturity. Cost is $60 and the group meets at Foothill Christian Fellowship, 2898 Laurel St., Napa, on Fridays. “Listening for God,” explores spiritual issues through the lens of modern literature and meets on Sunday mornings at 10 a.m. The second class, “Living the Marks of Discipleship,” is offered on Thursdays at 7:30 p.m. and Fridays at 10:30 a.m. and explores the lifestyle of Christian living. Napa-based missionaries return home

Global Passion Ministries (GPM) finished another busy summer taking 450 young people into 11 countries. They shared the gospel of Jesus Christ and took in construction and medical teams. Supplies, clothing, medicines and much more were distributed. This October marks three years ago that GPM arrived in Napa and partnered up with Hillside Christian Center.
