St. Helena Fire Department

An open house will be held today from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the St. Helena Fire Department, 1500 Main St. in St. Helena. This is the north Napa Valley's premier fire prevention event and showcases fire departments, public agencies and civic groups. Call 967-2880.
College Night

On Wednesday starting at 6:30 p.m., Vintage High School students and their parents are invited to come to the Vintage gym, 1375 Trower Ave., to meet college reps, receive literature on schools and programs, learn about entrance requirements, scholarships and more.
Copperfield's Books

On Thursday at 4 p.m. at Copperfield's Books, 3900A Bel Aire Plaza, join Rozanne Gold, author of "Kids Cook 1-2-3." Gold, known for her national T.V. appearances, shows kids how to use straightforward recipes with only three ingredients to make tasty, healthy meals.

Senior Seminar

Bi-National Health Fair

The health fair today will provide 500 health screenings including blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol, eye exams, hearings, dental, mental health, heel testing for osteoporosis, glaucoma testing and anemia testing. There will be 35 community organizations distributing information, workshops by the Napa Children and Weight Coalition and more. The fair will be at the parking lot and facilities of the Napa Valley Vintners Community Health Center, 1141 Pear Tree Lane, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information, call Sue Nahass at 251-1064.

Health Week Event

At Queen of the Valley Hospital on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m., next to the new Wellness Center at Trancas and Villa Lane, a free event will be held to create awareness of the Queen's services and to build relationships between members of the Queen's staff and the Latino community. The event includes information about financial assistance, interpreting, the Wellness Center, Community Outreach, volunteer services and more. North Bay Walk

to Cure Diabetes

On Saturday at Peju and St. Supery Vineyard and Wineries, registration is at 10 a.m. and the walk begins at 11 a.m. This is the second walk for the newly formed North Bay Branch of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Panic and anxiety program

This program is geared to help anyone suffering from panic, anxiety and agoraphobia to cope with these disorders. We will teach you how to control panic attacks and anticipatory anxiety. Lolo's consignment store is collecting clean, reusable coats and jackets to assist the One Warm Coat community service effort. Men's, women's and kids' jackets, coats and raincoats of all shapes and sizes (especially large) are needed.

Quilters Guild

The Napa Valley Quilters Guild meets on the second Saturday of each month at 10 a.m. at the Napa Senior Center. Following the Oct. 14 meeting, they will be tying quilts that will be distributed to various local assistance groups, such as Aldea House, Clinic Ole and homeless shelters. Dreamweavers'

general auditions

Napa's award-winning Dreamweavers Theatre will hold its first-ever general auditions on Friday and Saturday. The 20-year-old troupe seeks both aspiring and experienced actors for its 2007 season, which will include main-stage productions of "Prisoner of 2nd Avenue," "Laura," "Proof" and "The Cemetery Club." Performers are asked to prepare two contrasting monologues for the Dreamweavers directors, who will allot 10 minutes per audition. Auditions will be scheduled from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, on the main stage at 1637 Imola Ave.
