The World in a Glass: Wine sales in Massachusetts

A measure on November’s ballot in Massachusetts will determine if supermarkets and gas stations that sell food can apply for a license to sell wine. Apparently the current law allows only three wine licenses per retailer, and, according to thebostonchannel.com, a large chain like Stop and Shop can sell wine only in Quincy, Hingham and Malden. Under the proposed law, named Question 1, cities and towns would be granted new licenses based on population.

All along the Napa River I see long yellow noodle-like things floating in the water. I know they have something to do with flood control, but I’m not sure what they are. What are they, and will they be a permanent fixture on the waterway, or are they only there until the dredging, excavation, whatever, is done?
