LOWER LAKE — The St. Helena High football team had not lost three games in a row in Ian MacMillan’s two-plus seasons as head coach.
They still haven’t lost three in row in the MacMillan era, defeating the host Lower Lake Trojans 34-6 Friday night at Gordon Sadler Field.
The Saints (3-2), who led 13-6 at halftime, scored three second-half touchdowns to ice the contest.
The first two were 9- and 3-yard runs respectively by David Fanucci, and the third was a 20-yard run courtesy of John Hudson.
In fact, Hudson, Fanucci and fill-in quarterback Kendall Sanders accounted for all 320 of the Saints’ offensive yards, exclusively via the ground game.
St. Helena was 0-for-1 passing against the Trojans (1-4).
Sanders started in place of quarterback Jake Holguin, who was limited to placekicking duties due to a pinched nerve he sustained in last week’s 15-13 loss to Willits.
Fanucci finished with 28 carries for 161 yards and three touchdowns, while Hudson carried the ball 13 times for 87 yards. Sanders tallied 13 totes for 72 yards.
Defensively, the Saints limited the Trojans to 119 total yards and just seven first downs, while sacking quarterback Jake Sanders three times.
Kendall Sanders, Chris Yeakey and Alex Seyve accounted for the sacks, while Yeakey and Dylan Rahn recorded tackles for lost yardage.
The ballgame was tight in the first half, however.
The Saints went up 7-0 on Fanucci’s 3-yard run in the first quarter, followed by Holguin’s point-after.
Sanders put St. Helena up 13-0 with an 8-yard run late in the second quarter.
The Trojans got back into it just 17 seconds before halftime as Jake Sanders threw a 16-yard scoring pass to Kevin Freeman, but Yeakey blocked the extra-point attempt.
The Saints host Clear Lake next Friday at Patterson Memorial Field for Homecoming as well as the NCL I South league opener.

The winless Saints (0-5) played one of their closest games of the season as Edgar Caldera scored on touchdown runs of 1 and 3 yards.
He rushed for 110 yards on 21 carries.
The Saints’ Miguel Calderon threw a 37-yard scoring pass to Francisco Valdivia for the other score.
