Four Napa High School Choirs will present their public debut performances of the new school year when they sing at the Mont La Salle Retreat and Conference Center Chapel, 4405 Redwood Road, on Oct. 15.
The NHS Women’s Ensemble, Chamber Choir and both Concert Choirs under the direction of Travis Rogers and Jamie Butler will present the 18th Annual Harvest Celebration Concert at two separate seatings. The first performance is at 2:30 p.m. with the second, identical, performance following at 5 p.m.
The singers will perform a variety of classical and folk songs from around the world. The two Concert Choirs will combine to close the performances with over 200 students performing “Variants On An Irish Hymn” by John Ness Beck, a song the groups are preparing for their Ireland performance tour scheduled next spring.
Tickets at $20 per person are available for both concert seatings in advance at the NHS music office, 2475 Jefferson St. or by phoning 253-3705. Any remaining tickets will be sold at the door.
A limited number of reserved seat tickets at 12 each remain for the Napa High School Choir annual Fall Concert set for Oct. 18 at 7 p.m. in the Napa Distrist Auditorium at 2425 Jefferson St. The performance will include six different choral ensembles under the direction of Rogers and Butler. Napa’s Dreamweavers Theatre holds its first-ever general auditions on Oct. 13 and 14. The 20-year-old troupe seeks both aspiring and experienced actors for its 2007 season, which will include main-stage productions of “Prisoner of Second Avenue,” “Laura,” “Proof” and “The Cemetery Club.”
Dreamweavers is also introducing its 2007 Black Box Summer program, in which a stock cast of three men and five women will produce “Seascape,” “The Dinner Party” and “The Heidi Chronicles.”
The general auditions will allow actors to audition once for all of the troupe’s 2007 plays. Performers are asked to prepare two contrasting monologues for the Dreamweavers directors, who will allot 10 minutes per audition.
Auditions will be scheduled from 7 to 10 p.m. Oct. 13, and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 14, on the main stage at 1637 Imola Ave. (to the rear of the River Park Shopping Center).
Dreamweavers is also recruiting off-stage volunteers: stage managers and crew, lighting and sound technicians and lobby staff.

And artists too ...Napa Valley artists Lynne Tuft and Miki Hsu Leavey will lead a workshop on “Everything You Ever Needed to Know About Teaching Art in the Classroom but Were Afraid to Ask” Oct. 21 and 22, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at 101 S. Coombs St., Studio V in Napa.
“Our schools are looking for qualified artists, teachers and parents who can teach art effectively to little kids and big kids in the classroom, during and after school hours,” the artists wrote in a press release. “Join us for a confidence boost. Hone your teaching skills as we make and design our own art projects for students. We want to put our combined 65 years of classroom experience as professional teaching artists, to a test. We would like to share our art projects and classroom tips with you.”
The two-part workshop has been designed for those with and without classroom experience, who are passionate about the arts and who would like to volunteer or get paid to teach art in the classroom. An art background is helpful. Artists, teachers and parents are welcome.

Booksigning for Dennis Murphy Dennis Murphy, who was born in Vallejo and grew up in Napa, will return to town Friday to promote his books. Murphy graduated with the Napa High class of ‘70.
An active volunteer, he coached baseball and soccer in Yountville and Napa and helped out at the Napa Fairgrounds calling bingo for the local non profit organizations for years. Murphy retired in 2002 after working for Safeway Stores in St. Helena for 31 years.
In 2005, after the loss of his mother, Murphy decided to move to Branson, Mo., where he now lives. Murphy said Branson inspired him to write two books in about six months. The publishing part of these books were” very hard,” he said, but he now has two books out for sale.
The first book he wrote is“One Man’s Story Of Divorce” (A True Guide and Story on Feelings, Marriage, Domestic Violence and More). His second book is titled “Welcome To Branson.”
“There is so much to see and do here in Branson that you should get a copy and then come and visit Branson on your vacation,” Murphy said. “Branson is fun for the entire family or couple just wanting a place that is filled with so much to do. k.
