Prepare for an afternoon of swashbuckling and laughter on stage at Napa’s Dreamweavers Theatre Saturday as the local improvisational-comedy group the Giggles presents its condensed version of the movie blockbuster “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl.”

The Giggles, making a second appearance after a well-received show at Dreamweavers last spring, grew out of a class at the non-profit Moving Forward Toward Independence in Napa.

Eleven young Napa adults with learning and developmental disabilities have been studying improv with actress Amber Price, a former Dreamweavers board member who works as a teaching artist for the Bay Area education-entertainment group the Super Dupers.

On Saturday afternoon, the Giggles will play some of the short-form improv games with audience participation that were “a huge hit,” at the troupe’s debut last March, Price said.

The centerpiece of Saturday’s show will be the “Pirates” epic, rewritten by the Giggles and presented with costumes and music.

Donna Feingold, director of Moving Forward Toward Independence, said she saw the players in a new light after their March appearance.

“I knew our folks had hidden talents,” she said, “(but) I was surprised at how professional they were — and how funny they were.”

Napans who attend Saturday’s show are likely to recognize members of the Giggles. Feingold said several live in the Moving Forward group homes, while others have graduated to apartments and nearly all have jobs at local retailers including Vallerga’s, Target and Wal-Mart.
