The North Bay Athletic Association compulsory gymnastics team participated in the annual American Pride Invitational meet at Aerials Gymnastics in Vacaville last weekend.
The girls competed with their NBAA mates as two separate teams in Levels 4/5 and Level 6, with each group finishing second among the many competing teams.
The entire team’s performances improved across the board from its first outing, with some significantly high individual finishes and many improved performances.
North Bay head coach Suzy Goodmanson and coaches Jennifer William and Serena Donham were pleased with the girls’ results and will be working hard for the next meet in Brentwood, hosted by Black Diamond gymnastics.

Napa and American Canyon gymnasts performed very well during the meet, as seven girls took part in the different levels and age groups.
Leading the Napa group was Cassidy Pallo with a first-place all-around score of 33.35 in her age group. She also had first-place scores on the vault (8.75) and floor (8.4), and a third on the beam (8.6).
Level 4 contestants Kathleen Kelejian and Diana Castillo scored all-arounds above 33.0. Castillo placed second on the floor (8.725), third on the beam (8.6) and fourth all-around (33.625). Kelejian notched fourth places on the vault (8.5) and beam (8.975).
Other high finishes included Courtney Clemons’ third on the vault (8.8), Megan Wong’s third on the bars (8.475) and Danielle Sanderson’s second on the beam (8.775).
Napa aquatics team to host family swim day
Wine Country Aquatics of Napa will host a “Friends and Family Swim Day” from 4 to 5 p.m. Wednesday as part of USA Swimming’s Nationwide “We Want You On Our Team” initiative. The public is invited to join in games and relays at the free event, which will be at Redwood Junior High.

Justin-Siena to host hoop coaches clinic
Justin-Siena High School will host its 2006 Basketball Coaches Clinic from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 15 at Dan Clark Gym.
Basketball coaches of all ages and skill levels are invited. the cost is $50 and includes a T-shirt, handouts, refreshments, and lunch.
Registration will be at 8:45 a.m. and introductions at 9 a.m., followed by instruction from 9:30 to noon. After lunch, instruction will continue and wrap up with a final topic that starts at 3:15 p.m. Players will demonstrate drills and techniques.
Those interested are urged to register by Oct. 12, though walk-ups are welcome.
Scheduled speakers include:
• Braves varsity boys basketball coach Tom Bonfigli, who formerly head-coached at Cardinal Newman High in Santa Rosa and has 25 years of coaching experience.
• The Branson School varsity women’s coach Mike Fulton, the former head women’s coach at College of Marin and ex-girls coach at Terra Linda High.
• Scott Davis, the director and founder of Strictly Hoops Basketball Club and a former women’s head coach at Dominican College and ex-assistant at St. Mary’s College and Sacramento State.
• UC Davis women’s assistant coach Joe Teramoto, who was a women’s assistant at St. Mary’s and men’s assistant at Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo, and was the head girls coach at San Luis Obispo High and a junior high camp instructor.
• Justin-Siena varsity girls head coach Mike Boles, who is also the athletic director at St. Francis Solano School and has eight years of high school and 14 years of youth coaching experience.

Napa hosts NFL skills event Wednesday
The City of Napa Parks & Recreation Department will host the 12th annual NFL Pepsi Punt, Pass & Kick competition from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Napa Memorial Stadium, 1340 Menlo Ave. This free program has been created to provide a lively and engaging forum for boys and girls, ages 8 to 15, to compete against their peers in punting, passing and kicking skills.
All participants must complete an entry form the day of the event and have valid proof of age to register. Registration will be accepted the day of the event only. Photocopies of birth certificates or passports will be accepted. The age groups are as follows: 8-9, 10-11, 12-13, and 14-15 (age is determined as of Dec. 31, 2006).
The average time needed to compete is 15 minutes.

Benefit golf tourney has Saturday deadline
The Smooth Moves Golf Tournament, a benefit for the Volunteer Center of Napa Valley’s Elder Abuse Program and sponsored by Jennifer Sims and Nancye Peatman, is Oct. 6 at Napa Golf Course at Kennedy Park.
There’s an 11 a.m. shotgun start. The $70 entry fee includes golf with cart, a box lunch, and a barbecue dinner.
The deadline to sign up is Saturday. Checks are to be made payable to Volunteer Center of Napa and mailed to 1820 Jefferson St., Napa, CA 94558. The cost to sponsor a hole is $150. To sign up, or for information, call 256-2308.
‘Spare a Dime’ Giants trips end Sunday
For the 48th year, the “Brother Can You Spare a Dime” organization is taking groups to San Francisco Giants baseball games for the 2006 season. The last game is Sunday against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The bus departs at 10:30 a.m. from Financial Plaza, at the southwest corner of Trancas Street and Big Ranch Road in Napa. Those going should plan to check in and board a half-hour before departure.
Tickets are $35, which include round-trip motorcoach transportation, a ticket and refreshments on board the bus. Tickets are limited and are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
