Department of Forestry plane crashes in Tulare County
By the Associated Press
SPRINGVILLE -- A pilot and firefighter in a California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection plane crashed in remote Tulare County foothills Wednesday, authorities said.
CDF officials did not release the names of the two people, but has notified their families about the crash, said spokeswoman Becki Redwine.
The pilot was contracted to help battle a fire in the Mountain Home area, about 170 miles north of Los Angeles, and the passenger was a CDF firefighter from Tulare County, Redwine said.
She could not confirm whether they were still alive.
The model OV10 plane sparked a three-acre wildfire near where firefighters battled the other blaze.
