Wine Merchant coming to Oxbow

The Wine Merchant of the San Francisco Ferry Building signed to create a wine bar at the Oxbow Public Market to be built next to Copia. It will be called the Oxbow Market Wine Merchant and Wine Bar.

Other tenants include Donna Scala of Bistro Don Giovanni and Long Meadow Ranch.
Count down to Go Fish

Cindy Pawlcyn, Ken Tominaga and Sean Knight hope to open their Go Fish Grill in St. Helena on Sept. 15.
Pawlcyn and Knight hired St. Helena architect Howard Backen of Backen Gillam to redesign the former Pinot Blanc as a West Coast fish house and sushi bar.

Cliff Lede's Ledcor construction company is handling the renovation.
Kuleto's Nick's Cove

expects to open March 1

Pat Kuleto reports that work is well underway on the renovation of historic Nick's Cove restaurant and cottages on Tomales Bay.

When open, Nick's will have 11 upscale vacation cottages as well as a seafood restaurant on the pier.

The restaurant will combine high-end dining with casual barbecued oysters and burgers and has a full liquor license.

It will also sell oysters and picnic lunches.

Kuleto's other venture is in Rincon Park on the waterfront of San Francisco.

He expects to open the two restaurants next year. Epic Roasthouse, under former Catahoula chef-owner Jan Birnbaum, will focus on meat and Water Bar with chef Mark Franz from Farallon will specialize in seafood.

In Napa Valley, Kuleto owns Martini House in St. Helena, and Kuleto Estate Family Winery.

360 posts $24 million loss; dumps Kirkland Ranch

The 360 Global Wine Co., said it is abandoning its interest in Kirkland Ranch Winery in Jamieson Canyon to focus on Viansa Winery in Sonoma and half of Kirkland Ranch Winery.

The company reported a $24 million operating loss for the first half of this calendar year on $8 million in revenue.

Gary Andrus loses

New Zealand winery

New Zealand's Gypsy Dancer, which is owned by Gary Andrus is in bankruptcy.

Andrus once co-owned Pine Ridge here, and has another winery called Gypsy Dancer in Oregon.

The Oregon-based Gypsy Dancer is apparently not involved.

Mondavi schedules

next Taste3 Conference

Robert Mondavi Winery has scheduled next year's Taste3 conference for May 6 to 9.

The first conference was held this year at Copia and the winery.

New twilight tours at

Ladera Vineyards

Ladera Vineyards is offering a Twilight Tour and a Lone Canyon Driving Tour for a winetasting experiences.

The Twilight Tour is at Ladera's 120-year old winery on Howell Mountain, and the Lone Canyon Driving Tour takes guests to isolated Lone Canyon, 480 acres of steep terrain on Mt. Veeder.

Visiting Duckhorn

now requires appointments

Duckhorn Vineyards now asks weekend visitors to make appointments, but most guests will still be able to walk in and taste on weekdays.

Linda Murphy

leaves Chronicle

Linda Murphy, the editor of the wine section of the San Francisco Chronicle, has left to return to writing -- and a simpler life in Healdsburg without a commute.

The paper hasn't named a successor.

Murphy is now West Coast correspondent for Decanter magazine, writes for Jancis Robinson's www.jancisrobinson.com and continues to write for the Chronicle and other wine publications.

The Bay Area's early Italians documented in book

A conversation and book signing about the Bay Area's early Italians will be presented by Alessandro Baccari Saturday at Copia at 3:15 p.m.

Author Baccari's "San Francisco Fisherman's Wharf: Images of America" focuses on early Italian immigrants in the Bay Area.

Jeff Dawson, who is renowned for propagating new varieties of tomatoes, will talk about growing, trends and answer garden questions.
