Fishing Report
Saturday is one of the annual “Free Fishing Days.” Sept. 23 is the other one. No license required on either day. Gather up the kids and just go do it. Here are some places where you can find some action:

All orchestra of all-stars comes to Copia
Underneath Larry Vuckovich's trademark beret is a head crammed with the names of jazz greats from Vernon Alley to Michael Zisman -- men mostly, whose talent, energy and musical grace inspired generations of young musicians, including one young Montenegrin Serb listening to Armed Forces radio as it drifted into his home in Kotor, courtesy of Voice of America.
Film Fest at the White Barn
The White Barn in St. Helena will host a weekend of classic movies under the stars Aug. 25 - 27. The White Barn Film Fest will also feature live performances, contests, short films, cartoons and a snack bar. The White Barn is an 1872 carriage house converted to a small performing arts hall located at the end of Sulphur Springs Avenue. This intimate setting has nurtured local, Bay Area and international talents for 20 years under the guidance of Nancy Garden.
Bedazzled by 'Broadway'
On Saturday night at the Lincoln Theater, the audience was treated to a fine performance, a musical review titled "Direct From Broadway."
Dreamweavers' apocalyptic 'Rainbow' blends humor with hope
The Rainbow Bar & Grille has seen better days, but this one looks like its last. Something is silently killing off the population of America, without warning or explanation -- the TV runs nothing but "I Love Lucy," and the telephone is dead.

Maine's blueberries big business, tradition for American Indians
TOWNSHIP 19, Maine -- With a cadence that has swept Maine's vast swaths of wild blueberries for generations, hundreds of Micmac and Passamaquoddy Indians stoop in the August sun, dragging rakes across fields that shimmer blue.
Try your hand at Indian bread and blueberry cake
Indian bread is the tortilla of American Indians of the Northeast. The dense, chewy bread tastes like a cross between a dumpling and a muffin and is eaten with everything. It is especially good dunked in molasses or accompanying baked beans.
We need more planes -- plane trees, that is
The trees of France may be as memorable as the Eiffel Tower. Most specifically, the London plane trees.
Composite decking adds new features
The knock against composite decking by some homeowners has been the lack of pieces to match deck boards. It was tough to coordinate railings or seating with basic deck boards. Manufacturers concentrated on boards that mimicked the look, color and grain of real wood.
Butterflies and caterpillers
Butterfly gardens are a wonderful way to bring new colors into your yard but they won't attain their potential if the plants you choose are appetizing only to the adults. Caterpillars are butterflies too, yet they prefer an altogether different bill of fare.
Home maintenance tips -- not myths
When it comes to home maintenance and upkeep -- not to mention your car -- there are several ways to get thing shining.
Trellises and arbors
By this time of year, the sun that we welcomed in the spring has become too much of a good thing. Instant shelter, shade and support for sprawling plants are all part of the gardener's prayers, and trellises and arbors can provide the answer. While a trellis or arbor does not provide an instant result, the time required to achieve support or shade can be measured in days as opposed to the years needed for even the fastest growing trees.
Moving: An organizer's strategy
Moving is something we all love to do, right? I recently read that the average person moves more than a dozen times in a lifetime and that moving is one of life's top stressors. People usually don't have the time to properly orchestrate their move, they tend to wait until they get to the new location to start purging, sorting and such. Since most of us want to quickly get back to our routine, we may never get around to unpacking all. Once I worked for a client off Dry Creek Road who had moved into the home two years prior and still had not made the time to unpack some of the boxes.
