Summer youth golf camp continues Aug. 7

The city of Napa?s Community Resources Department is offering a summer golf camp for youths ages 8-12 at Napa Golf Course in Kennedy Park.
The camp runs Aug. 7-11, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. The cost is $109. Students will receive instruction in golf etiquette, rules, putting, driving and chipping. Students will also focus skills in all aspects of the game, with new topics like trouble and bunker shots. Additionally, students will play two to four holes per week.

New Era Volleyball Skills Clinic Aug. 8, Aug. 10 at Mare Island

The New Era Volleyball Skills Clinic will cover all aspects of the sport, including passing, setting, hitting and serving.
It will be held at Mare Island Sports Center on Aug. 8 and Aug. 10 from 6 to 8 p.m. each night. The cost is $20 per clinic and is open to girls ages 12-17. Space is limited, so those interested should e-mail info@neweravbc.com and include age, grade, skill level and e-mail address.

Skill levels are as follows: Beginner ? no experience; Novice ? some experience, including middle school or freshman play; Advanced ? high school experience and club play./Register

Stop The Violence Track Meet Aug. 12

The Stop The Violence Track Meet is looking for 500 people of all ages to compete in this summer?s meet. It will be a day full of events and fun, on and off the track for the entire family to enjoy. Ronald McDonald will appear at this year?s Stop The Violence Track Meet held at Corbus Field at Vallejo High School on 840 Nebraska St. from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on Aug. 12. Registration gates willopen at 7 a.m.

Registration fees are as followed: kids 4-13 years old: $3; relay teams of four $28 or $7 per person; single runners 14 and older: $10 per person. For those who want to watch, but don?t want to participate in track and field events, fees are as followed: adults: $5; students 14-17: $4, though with proper I.D. and student body card: $3; and children 3 and under are admitted free.

Tax-deductable donations can be mailed to Stop The Violence Track Meet at P.O. Box 1089, Vallejo, Calif. 94590.

Fall sports at Napa, Vintage high schools start Aug. 14

The fall sports season at Napa and Vintage high schools start Aug. 14. Sports include football, volleyball, boys soccer, water polo, girls tennis, cross country and girls golf. Paperwork that requires a doctor?s signature must be filled out prior to Aug. 14. These papers will be available in the front offices of the schools beginning Aug. 1.

?Brother Can You Spare a Dime? Giants trips continue Aug. 20

For the 48th year, the ?Brother Can You Spare a Dime? organization is once again taking groups of special and deserving youngsters, senior citizens and the general public to San Francisco Giants baseball games for the 2006 season. This year ?Brother Can You Spare a Dime? has reserved eight Sunday afternoon games of baseball.

The remaining 2006 schedule:

Aug. 20, Los Angeles Dodgers; Aug. 27, Cincinnati; Sept. 10, San Diego; Oct. 1, Los Angeles Dodgers.

The bus departs at 10:30 a.m. from Financial Plaza (at the southwest corner of Trancas Street and Big Ranch Road) in Napa. Those going should plan to check in and board a half-hour before departure.

Tickets are $35, which includes round-trip motorcoach transportation, a ticket and refreshments on board the bus. Tickets are limited and are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
