Summer Girls Basketball
• Vintage 33, Justin-Siena 32
• Vintage 47, Wood 17
Vintage’s junior varsity team went 2-for-2 Wednesday afternoon in the Rodriguez Summer League in Cordelia. All 10 players contributed and played hard.
“You could tell how much improvement they’ve made in the four days at Sonora,” varsity head coach Dave Hollman said about this past weekend’s 15-game tournament, where Vintage went 10-5. “They’re so crisp. I’m so looking forward to the next couple of years.”
Hollman added that Sara Zuniga’s play at point guard has earned her a lot of minutes and made the Crushers difficult to press against.
Vintage is now 9-4 in the Rodriguez tournament and 19-9 overall this summer.
Napa Valley swimmers compete
at section championships
Napa Valley Swim Team swimmers Chardonnay Biter-Mundt, Dori Bland, Jesselyn Kennedy and Jocelyn Phillips recently competed at the Speedo Summer Section Championship meet held in Bakersfield. The quartet placed 15th in both the 800-meter and 400 freestyle relays, setting new team records in both (8:56.20 and 4:05.80, respectively).
Individual highlights included Phillips swimming to first, second and third-place finishes (100 free, 50 free, 200 free), and Biter-Mundt turning in a 14th-place finish in the 100 free.
The Section Championships, a long course meet with time standards just short of the U.S. Open cuts, is held twice annually and draws together 600 of the fastest swimmers from throughout California and Nevada.
