Napa Track Club competes hard in Livermore

Napa Track Club had 15 athletes compete in the Pacific Association USA Track & Field Junior Olympic Championships at Granada High in Livermore last weekend.
During the first two days of age-group competition, Napa recorded nine personal records, set eight qualifying marks for the regionals, and collected a pair of medals in the triple jump finals.

Competing in the midget girls division (11-12 years old), Claire Miller set a new personal record with a long jump of 12-41/2.
In the youth girls division (13-14), Olivia Olson also had a personal best long jump, and qualified for the regional finals with a personal record triple jump of 29-13/4.

Jennifer Cardey qualified for the regionals in both the long and triple jumps, taking a bronze medal in the latter with a mark of 30-101/4.
Lauren Cardey also qualified in a pair of events to move on in the long jump and the 200-meter dash, which she ran in a personal best time of 27.85.

In intermediate girls (15-16), Megan Zoller qualified for the regional championships in the 100 hurdles with a personal best time of 18.53.

In the youth boys division, Eric Zoller had personal records in both the 200 (26.76) and 400 (1.00.42).

Mario Giovannoni qualified for regionals in the triple jump.

Napa’s intermediate boys also recorded several outstanding performances.

Anthony Zoller had a personal best long jump of 18-1, while Kevin Cardey improved his best time in the 800 (2.21.76) and qualified for regionals in the long jump.

Dominic Giovannoni qualified for regionals and collected a bronze medal with a triple jump of

37-41/2.

Over 1,000 entrants competed from northern and central California and western Nevada.

The top eight finishers in each event will move on to the Junior Olympic Regional Championships in July.
