First Napa Junction shops to open

The first businesses at Napa Junction -- one of the biggest developments in American Canyon -- will open by the end of this week, according to representatives for the two companies.
Representatives for Starbucks, the Seattle-based coffee retail giant, and Jamba Juice, the San Francisco-based chain of fruit smoothies stores, said they chose American Canyon in part because it is a growing community.
Starbucks will feature a drive-thru business, which, according to manager Steve Corral, will remain open longer hours than its sit-in area.
"It has very high expectations," said Corral of the new store.
This is the second Starbucks for the city. There is also a shop on West American Canyon Road.
Dale Osmond, president and executive director of the American Canyon Chamber of Commerce, on Monday predicted that Starbucks and Jamba Juice will be very successful once Wal-Mart opens.
"We're just excited about the whole thing."
The 40-acre mixed-use project estimated at $83 million -- will feature a total of 215,000 square of commercial development, including a 175,000 square-foot Wal-Mart Supercenter now under construction, according to the developer, Menlo Park-based Lake Street Ventures.
The mixed-use development will also feature a 216-unit apartment complex and a 3-acre park, both of which are scheduled to open this summer, Vincent "Buzz" Butler, project manager for Lake Street Ventures, said Monday.
Fairfield Residential of San Diego is building the apartments, which could become condominiums in a decade.
Butler said the mixed-use project could employ a total of 600 people and bring $1.3 million in sales and property tax revenues to American Canyon.
In a later phase, now under development, another 130,000 square feet of retail on 17 acres off Napa Junction Road could be built, he said.
The main access to the Starbucks and Jamba Juice stores will be at Eucalyptus Drive, where a new signal is being installed, Butler said.
