Calistoga Junior-Senior High School's graduating class of 2006 marked the end of one chapter and the beginning of another with Friday night's graduation ceremony held at Napa County Fairgrounds.
Carina Llamas, 17, said she hopes to start writing the next chapter in her life at Santa Rosa Junior College, getting her general education requirements out of the way before transferring to Sonoma State University.
"I feel excited, nervous and a whole bunch of different emotions," she said. She said she'll study forensic psychology at Sonoma State.
Amber Bohan, 18, will be joining Llamas at Santa Rosa Junior College, taking nursing courses, she said.
Donnie McMahon, 18, said he's going to attend Napa Valley College, with a long-term goal of becoming a veterinarian. He said he's not going to miss the daily high school routine, but will miss the many friends he's made.
In all, 39 students wore the school's green and white and anxiously huddled at the fairgrounds. Photo collages filled with graduates' baby, elementary school, athletic and high school pictures were on display for proud parents and friends.
"I am really pleased to have such a fabulous group of graduates," said Kevin Eisenberg, Calistoga Junior-Senior High School principal. "I've known most of the students since they were in kindergarten."
Eisenberg was the former principal of Calistoga Elementary School and took over similar duties at the high school last year, he said.
Several local business and organizations donated about $100,000 in scholarship funds to students, Eisenberg said.
"Half the (graduating) class are receiving scholarships," Eisenberg said.
Calistoga Junior-Senior High School serves about 350 students in grades 7-12, according to Vice Principal Sharron Zoller.
What will the students miss most about high school?
"My friends and everything," Llamas said.
"Just, like, how it's a small community and that you know everyone," McMahon said.
