City Council endorses arts commission
The Napa City Council endorsed the creation of a Napa County Arts and Cultural Commission Tuesday.
The new countywide group would work with the county and cities to create a strategic plan to promote the local arts scene. It would operate under the Board of Supervisors.
Councilman Kevin Block questioned the need for both a new commission in addition to the Arts Council of Napa Valley. Perhaps they should be combined, he said.
A commission supporter, David Mendelsohn, said the new group would do political advocacy, while the Arts Council works directly with arts and cultural groups.
The council ended up giving the new group its unanimous support./Register
