Napa Valley College grad receives award

Amy Little, 2003 graduate from Napa Valley College, received the award for Outstanding Marketing Student 2006 at San Jose State University. She received a plaque and cash award from her professors at a banquet on March 23. She was also a finalist for outstanding business student, based on academic performance, work history and volunteer service. She is employed at Maxim Integrated Products as a strategic accounts manager in Sunnyvale. She is the daughter of Peggy Burris and Glenn Suyeyasu and the granddaughter of Willard Burris and the late Norma Burris of Napa./Register
Local students named All-American Scholar

Rachelle Whitehead of Justin-Siena High School has been named an All-American Scholar by the United States Achievement Academy. All-American Scholars must earn a 3.3 or higher grade point average. Rachelle Whitehead is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Whitehead of Napa. Myles Butler and Peter Butler of Napa High School were also named All-American Scholars. They are the sons of Cindy and Myles Butler of Napa and the grandsons of Martha Butler of Napa./Register
Ruta Quetzal Scholarship winner

Local students Heradio Rios was a finalist for the Ruta Quetzal scholarship and Theodora Forbes was awarded the scholarship. Only four Ruta Quetzal scholarships are given in the United States. The program was created in 1979 at the suggestion of the king of Spain, with the goal of strengthening understanding among 16 and 17-year-old students of the foundations of the Latin American Commonwealth of Nations among Spanish-speaking countries. Each scholarship is valued at $14,000 and covers round trip air travel from New York or Miami and the full cost of the study-expedition to Mexico, Belize, Guatemala and Spain./Register
Napa Valley Language Academy recognized

The Napa Valley Language Academy was recognized by the state Department of Education for scoring among the top six schools for growth on the API from among the over 300 high priority schools in the state. The Department of Education commended the school for strong parent and community support; afterschool learning programs; unified leadership; a culture of diversity and respect; faculty expertise; high classroom expectations and more./Register

Napa student to attend future

leaders summit

Daniella de Laat, a student at Justin-Siena School, will join a select group of students representing their schools as People to People student leaders. De Laat has been accepted into the People to People Future Leaders Summit on Medicine in Baltimore, Md. on June 15 based on outstanding scholastic merit, civic involvement and leadership potential./Register

Local student makes Dean's List

Michael Steven Goetz of Napa has been placed on the Dean's List of the College of Design at Arizona State University for the fall semester of 2005./Register
