Taking a deeper look at school performance

In a recent front page article about the school district's API scores, your staff writer included a referral box titled "Get the data" and directed readers to page A6 for "the best and the worst." When readers turned to A6, the data they got was a listing of the single "best" and "worst" performing elementary, middle and high school in the district, complete with each school's API score and state ranking. The determination of best and worst performer was based solely on these two numbers.

Warming advocates no longer frozen out

Five years ago, when backers of an idea to make California the first state to regulate vehicle emissions of the gases that cause global warming, the only lawmaker they could find to carry their bill was a rookie assemblywoman fresh out of a career teaching a junior high civics class in Moorpark.
