Bard's perfect game leads Napa over Churchill
From Register Staff
Napa High School’s Mackenzey Bard pitched a perfect game, striking out 17 in a 5-0 win over Churchill County, which is from Fallon, Nev., in the Preseason Tournament of Champions at the Sacramento Softball Complex Thursday.
In other action, Napa lost to Righetti-Santa Maria 3-0, and beat Grace Davis-Modesto 5-0.
Bard also went 2-for-3 against Churchill. The Indians received offensive production from Micayla Smith, 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs; Lisa Daugherty, 1-for-3; JJ Wagoner, 1-for-3 with an RBI; and Paige Andres, 1-for-1 with an RBI.
“Mackenzey had one of the most dominating performances against a good team that I have witnessed,” said coach John O’Connor. “She willed her way to this perfect game.”
Churchill never had a baserunner and only hit one ball out of the infield.
Bard went the distance, allowing just three hits, striking out seven and not walking anyone in a loss to Righetti. Napa was hurt by three errors. Wagoner was 3-for-3, Daugherty was 2-for-3 and Bard went 1-for-4.
“Although Righetti is a traditional powerhouse, the entire team felt that they could have won the game,” said O’Connor. “It’s a sign of confidence that I’m very pleased with.”
Bard threw another complete game, limiting Grace Davis to just two hits, striking out eight and not walking anyone. The offense was led by Lyndsey Smith (3-for-4, one RBI), Wagoner (2-for-3), Micayla Smith (2-for-4, RBI), Bard (2-for-4), and Daugherty (1-for-4, RBI).
“This team came back from the earlier loss with great intensity,” said O’Connor, whose team is 3-1. “Mackenzey pitched another great game and the offense was excellent.”
