Vintage softball squad wins season opener

Carolyn Knudson allowed five hits, struck out three and didn’t walk anyone to lead the Vintage High School softball team to a 3-0 non-league win over Rancho Cotate-Rohnert Park in the Crushers’ 2006 opener Wednesday.
Ashley Howatt was 3-for-3, Megan Lopez was 2-for-2 with an RBI, Megan Boydston was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, Knudson was 1-3 with a double, and Bailey Price, Kelly Downing and Jessica Zeller each went 1-for-3.

Zeller (shortstop), Lopez (second base), Boydston (center field), and Howatt (catcher) all played well defensively.
Prep Baseball

• Nevada Union 11, Vintage 1
Vintage dropped to 0-4 with a non-league loss to visiting Nevada Union-Grass Valley Wednesday. Nate Azevedo took the loss.

College Baseball

• Napa Valley College 15, Butte College 7

• Butte College 8, Napa Valley College 0

Napa Valley College had its biggest offensive output of the year in the first game of last Saturday’s non-conference doubleheader in Oroville.

Art McHenry got the win after pitching six innings and giving up two runs, four hits and striking out two.

Garrett Smith was 3-for-6, Jon Wilson was 2-for-6 with a two-run home run and four RBIs, Tomas Donnelly was 4-for-6, Nick Lindsay was 2-for-5 with two RBIs, Nick Pike was 3-for-4 with three RBIs, Tom Long was 4-for-5 with two RBIs, and Dom Montez was 2-for-5 with two RBIs.

Dylan Brusstar took the loss in Game 2 after going 1 2/3 innings.

Donnelly and Adam Fonville each had two hits for the Storm.

Men’s College Golf

• Napa Valley College sixth in tournament

Zack Fahmie shot an 82, Alex Madrid had an 85, Chris Proft and John Crescines each had 91s, and Matt Melser had a 92 to lead Napa Valley College, which was sixth in the Big 7 Conference’s third tournament of the year at Morgan Creek in Roseville.

Prep Boys Swimming

• Vintage 109, Vallejo 47

The Crushers opened their season Wednesday with James Howe winning the 100 butterfly and the 100 breaststroke, Andrew Shipp winning the 100 back and taking second in the 50 freestyle, Cameron Vicenco taking first in the 50 free and second in 100 breaststroke, Clark Beach winning the 200 free and taking second in the 100 backstroke, Kevin O’toole winning the 500 free and finishing second in 200 individual medley, and Alex Khazanedar taking second in the 100 fly.

Shipp, Howe, Khazanedar and Vicenco won the 200 medley relay; Beach, O’toole, Norris and Corkett took first in the 200 free relay; and Shipp, Vicenco, Beach and Khazanedar took first in the 400 free relay.

Prep Girls Swimming

• Vintage 127, Vallejo 39

Captain Katie OsterKamp took first in the 50 free and 100 free, Dori Bland took first in the 200 free and second in the 50 free, Chardonnay Biter-Mundt took first in the 200 IM and the 100 backstroke, Jesslyn Kennedy won the 100 fly, Sarah Wolfe took second in the 200 free and third in the 100 free, Jessica Loper took second in the 100 back, Liz Homan won the 100 breast, and Melissa Loper was second in the 100 breast.

Dori Bland, Jesslyn Kennedy, Sarah Saunders and Chardonnay Biter-Mundt won the 200 medley relay and 400 free relay, and Katie OsterKamp, Sarah Saunders, Sarah Wolfe and Jesslyn Kennedy won the 200 free relay.

Prep JV Boys Swimming

• Vintage 46, Vallejo 19

David Howe won the 200 free and 50 breast, and Max Hitzler won the 50 free for Vintage.

Prep JV Girls Swimming

• Vintage 129, Vallejo 9

Brooke Obranovich won the 100 IM and 50 breast, Brittany Murdock took first in the 50 free, and Presley Troendly won the 100 free.

Prep JV Baseball

• Nevada Union 6, Vintage 2

Sean Ryan allowed one run in five innings and Mack Guevara was 2-for-3 and scored a run in a non-league game Wednesday.

Prep Freshman Baseball

• Benicia 4, Justin-Siena 1

Justin Clayton led off the second inning with an opposite-field home run and Reid Francis was 1-for-2 for Justin-Siena on Wednesday.
