Motty
Carole (Stuebner) and John Motty celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Jan. 21, 2006, with a dinner party held at their home with family and friends. The event was hosted by their daughter Linda Motty. Guests were entertained by classic guitarist Mike Klapholz and catering was by Charlene Cannard of Sonoma. The Mottys were married in Napa at the First Presbyterian Church on Jan. 22, 1956. They both graduated from Napa High School, Carole in 1955 and John in 1951. He also graduated from Napa College, attended Sonoma State, Solano College and UC Berkeley, obtaining his teaching credential. The Mottys owned and operated a printing business in San Rafael and then Motty's Olde Colony Press in Napa for nearly 30 years.
John is also a retired teacher of 22 years from Vintage High School, where he is a member of the Principal's Club. He is a member of Napa Native Sons #62, the American Legion Post #113 and a former member of the Napa Rifle and Pistol Club, where he shot competitively for many years. He was also a two-term president of the North Bay Rifle League. John served four years in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict, serving aboard aircraft carriers, the USS Boxer and the USS Valley Forge.
Carole enjoys antiquing and they were both active at Riverfront Antiques until its closing. They both play tennis, and John is an avid fisherman. Carole also enjoys her stints at the Napa City-County Library. The couple loves to travel and has made many trips throughout the United States, Mexico, Hawaii and Europe. To celebrate their special anniversary, they went to England and Scotland in October. Besides their daughter, Linda, Carole and John have four grandchildren, Amanda Feuerbach of Medford, Ore., Alexandra (Jon) Boivin of Antelope, Christopher and Eric of Napa and a very special great-granddaughter, Amelia Jayne, of Medford.
