Dreamweavers opens 2006 season with 'On Golden Pond'
By Register Staff
Dreamweavers Theatre opens its 2006 season with "On Golden Pond," heartwarming celebration of the everyday struggles and ultimate triumphs of life, love and family.
It's the love story of Norman Thayer, a retired New England professor, and his spirited wife, Ethel Thayer, who return to their summer home on Golden Pond in Maine for the 44th year.
Their divorced daughter and her fiance come to visit before heading off to Europe, leaving their teenage son behind for the summer.
The boy quickly becomes the grandchild the elderly couple has longed for. As the summer wanes, so does their brief idyll, and in the final, deeply moving moments of the play, Norman and Ethel are brought even closer together. Time, they know, is against them, but the years have been good and, perhaps, another summer on Golden Pond still awaits.
June Alane Reif will direct the Dreamweavers' version of Ernest Thompson 's work, and Tom Andrews and Rose Marie Sweeney will recreate the roles made famous by Henry Fonda and Katharine Hepburn in the film version.
The show opens Friday, with a gala that includes wine and hors d'oeuvres. Additional performances are Feb. 4, 5, 10, 11, 12, 17, 18, 19, 24, 25, 26, and March 3 and 4. Tickets are $25 for the gala, and for other performances are $18, general, and $15 for students, military and groups of 10 or more.
