School-business partnerships awards
The National School and Business Partnership Award supports the efforts of schools and businesses that improve the academic, social or physical well-being of students. Six partnerships will be selected to receive $10,000 each and attain national recognition. Applications are now available at www.corpschoolpartners.org and are due by Jan. 30./Register

Adult School registration
Napa Valley Adult School will be offering new community education and computer classes beginning in January. A sample of classes includes yoga heart, Tai Chi, self-defense, basics of "Living Foods Lifestyle," Feng Shui, acting, piano, dance, leaded stained glass, beginning Spanish and more. Terrific Toddlers -- For parents of children ages 1 through 3 years. Helps parents navigate the tricky terrain of toddlerhood. Jan. 4 to Mar. 9. 19 - 36 months, Wednesday, 12-18 months, Thursday, 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.

Positive Discipline -- Learn the basic goals of misbehavior. Thursdays, Feb. 9 to March 9, 6 to 8 p.m.

Spanish Mother's group -- A place to meet and connect with other mothers. Fourth Friday, 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Ages & Stages -- One on one activity to help parents determine if their child's development is age appropriate. By appointment.

Drop-In Childcare -- Children are cared for by a staff childcare provider. Parents must stay on site. Mondays, 10 a.m. to noon.

Kid's Turn -- For kids 4 to 14 years and their parents who are going through a divorce or separation. Jan. 12 through Feb. 16, St. John's Lutheran School, Thursdays 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Cooperative Co-Parenting -- Learn family mediation tactics. TBA.

TRIBE-Guiding Good Choices -- For ages 9-14 years to help improve family management skills and reduce the likelihood of substance abuse and problem behaviors in adolescence. Wednesdays Feb. 8 through Mar. 8, 6 to 8 p.m.

Money Smart -- A financial literacy class designed to start at the basics and build on your knowledge though a 5-week series of workshops. TBA.

Instrumental and voice lesson registration

The Napa Valley Music Associates are accepting registration for guitar, violin/viola/cello, flute, clarinet, drum/percussion, voice, piano, musical theater and brass ensemble students age 5 though adult.

Music in the schools program

Highly professional performers are available for presentations for entire schools or special assemblies through the Napa Valley Music Associates' Music in the Schools presentations. Guitarists, opera and musical theater performers, brass specialists and more.

Brass instrumental workshop

A one-hour workshop for trumpet, trombone, tuba and French horn instrumentalists in 4th grade through adult will be held with a specialist and professional performer. Date and time TBA.

Diabetes support groups and classes

Evening classes begin Tuesday and run four Tuesdays in a row at 6 p.m. The January afternoon class series begins Jan. 12, and runs four Thursdays in a row at 1 p.m. A pre-diabetes class will be held Thursday from 9 to 11 a.m. Support group will meet Jan. 11 at 6 p.m. and group for parents will meet Jan. 12 at 7 p.m. All classes and groups held at Queen of the Valley Hospital. Diabetes Wellness Program

Faith & Inspiration Project volunteers needed

Hospice and the Volunteer Center of Napa Valley are looking for volunteers to help the elderly, disabled and chronically ill. You can assist someone in need by picking up medications or running other errands, doing light yardwork, minor home repairs or just being a friendly visitor. St. John's Institute #26, YLI in Napa is once again preparing delicious beef and chicken enchiladas with sauce on Jan. 28. All enchiladas are made with fresh ingredients and nothing is made ahead or frozen.

Warm clothing drive

Help bring warmth to winter. The Boy Scouts of America will pick up and dispose of Christmas trees properly. Tree disposal will be environmentally safe. There is no need to call. All trees will be picked up during the weekend of Jan. 7 and 8. The trees will be turned into mulch and used for various environmental projects in the Napa Valley./Register

Be a Tax Aide volunteer

Help seniors deal with the challenges of preparing their income taxes by becoming a Tax Aide volunteer. Volunteers of all ages and educational backgrounds are welcome. Accounting or tax preparation experience is not required but comfort in working with numbers is important and some familiarity with federal and state income tax returns is helpful.
