Don't look now but "Follies" is back.

"Follies du Valle or Don't Quit Your Day Job," a musical revue fundraiser, is coming back to the Lincoln Theater at the Veterans Home in Yountville March 31-April 2. Follies, a kind of "American Idol" without Simon, Paula and Randy, provides an opportunity for everyone in the community to indulge his or her inner "ham."
Founded in 1997, the show has been in hiatus for the past few years while its venue, the Lincoln Theater, was remodeled. The theater, located on the grounds of the Veterans Home in Yountville underwent a four-year, $20 million renovation that added box seats, a balcony, expanded lobby, dressing rooms, meeting rooms and stage area.

This fifth Follies will celebrate the newly renovated theater's reopening as a world-class performing arts facility. The Lincoln is also home to the Napa Valley Symphony.
According to the Follies creator, Elizabeth Swanson, "It is a special opportunity to showcase local Napa Valley talent, including vocalists, dancers, actors, comedians, visual artists and just about anyone else who enjoys -- or thinks they might enjoy -- being on stage."

This year's revue, titled "Follies Takes the Stage," will feature children, teens, adults and seniors. Some performers are experienced amateur entertainers and some will make their stage debut at the Follies.
The kick-off gatherings for Follies 2006 will be held Tuesday and Jan. 11 beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Lincoln Theater in Yountville. Anyone in the Napa Valley -- including children -- with an interest in being on stage, or behind the scenes is encouraged to come one of these two days to sign up. Everyone who shows up can be in the show. Those interesting in singing a solo, in being a featured dancer, in a speaking part or who have a novelty act will be asked to audition one of these two nights.

The majority of casting is based on how much time someone is willing to commit during the rehearsal schedule that begins Jan. 30. Rehearsals will be held Monday through Thursday nights at the Rutherford Grange.

"We want to make the Follies approachable for everyone," noted director SuzAnne Wilson, who is taking the helm for the first time this year. "To do so, we need to accommodate all schedules. Depending on a person's level of interest, they can rehearse as little as one hour a week or as many as 12 hours." Wilson, a Napa native, is a multi-faceted theater educator, producer and performer.

The proceeds from the show will fund the Lincoln Theater Youth Education and Performance Fund as well as ongoing theater operations.

The show will open with on March 31 at 7 p.m. Weekend show times are April 1 at 7 p.m. and April 2 at 3 p.m. Tickets are $25 for all seats, $15 for children 12 and under and for seniors 65+. The Friday night opening will feature a Premier Party with tickets at $150 including pre-show private reception, preferred performance seating, a post-show supper and special entertainment.
