A Napa woman narrowly escaped death Monday after her boyfriend shot her in the head during an early morning argument.

The 21-year-old victim is expected to make a full recovery, Napa Police Detective Todd Shulman said. Her boyfriend, Omar Andrade, 32, of Napa was arrested Monday for attempted murder.
The couple was involved in an argument at a home in the 700 block of Lincoln Avenue around 7:45 a.m. when matters escalated. Andrade pulled a small caliber handgun and shot the woman, Shulman said.

Andrade fled and the woman was taken by a private party to the emergency room at Queen of the Valley Hospital, where she was treated and released.
"She was shot in the right side of the head and the bullet traveled across her skull. The bullet didn't penetrate her skull because it was a small caliber. If he used a larger caliber firearm, the bullet most likely would have penetrated her skull and she would have died," Shulman said.

The victim provided detectives with a description of Andrade's vehicle. Around 9 a.m., a sheriff's deputy spotted a vehicle matching the description broke down at the intersection of Main Street and Pueblo Avenue. Andrade, who is on probation, was taken into custody without any trouble, Shulman said.
In addition to attempted murder, Andrade was also arrested on suspicion of domestic violence, being an ex-felon in possession of a firearm, brandishing a weapon, discharging a weapon in a reckless manner and violation of probation.
