Bring your dancing shoes when the Bay Area's preeminent swing band, Swing Fever performs their swinging sounds at the Napa Valley Opera House, Friday at 8 p.m. in the Cafe Theatre. Free swing lessons begin at 7 p.m. in the Cafe Theatre. Swing Fever plays it, as jazz critic Phil Elwood once said, as though the numbers are "on today's Hit Parade."

The band treats 1930s and '40s swing era music as a living, breathing form to which the players bring fresh excitement, new arrangements and unusual instrumentation. Tickets are $28 and can be purchased at the Napa Valley Opera House Box Office, Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Saturday, noon to 4 p.m., by calling 226-7372 or online at www.nvoh.org.
Today's foremost guitar duo, Srgio & Odair Assad have been credited with double-handedly reviving Brazilian music for the instrument. As children, the Brazilian-born Assads' mandolinist father guided their discovery of their native music. The result is an uncanny rapport that has set new performance standards and an exceptional level of artistry that has led to a revival of contemporary music for guitar duo. Their performance Saturday at 8 p.m. will feature original music by Srgio and adaptations of works by such diverse musical talents as Gismonti and Rodrigo. Tickets are $35 and $30 and can be purchased at the Napa Valley Opera House Box Office, Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Saturday, noon to 4 p.m., by calling 226-7372 or online at www.nvoh.org.
