'TASTE FOR KNOWLEDGE' -- A wine festival featuring tastings, hors d'oeuvres, live and silent auction, raffle and door prizes and live music will benefit the Napa Valley Unified Education Foundation. Nov. 5 at Copia, 5:30 to 9 p.m., $40 in advance, $50 at the door.
SPIRITS OF ST. HELENA TOUR -- The St. Helena Historical Society will present its Third annual "Spirits of St. Helena" tour at the St. Helena Cemetery, 2461 Spring St. Nov. 5 at 1 p.m. This year's theme is "Old Soldiers Go West" and the tour will feature renowned local actors portraying the more than 20 Civil War veterans currently residing in the cemetery. In case of rain the tour will be moved to the American Legion Hall.
OPERA NIGHT -- Enjoy an evening of spontaneity, music and song with Kristin Pankonin accompanying the talented singers who come from around the Bay Area and beyond to sing and showcase their talents. As always, the talent is sure to be exceptional. Slater Smith will be leading an audience sing-a-long and Babe Palotta will charm the crowd with his accordion during intermission. $15 per person. FACES OF HOPE BENEFIT/SILENT AUCTION -- Napa baritone Ted Von Pohle and sopranos Vaida Falconbridge and Lisa Stuyvenburg will present an afternoon of delectable light German classical music presented in a cafe-style setting. Works will include selections by Mozart, Schubert and Strauss among others. Silent auction, German traditional food, drink and home-made desserts will be served. A benefit for the humanitarian project, Faces of Hope. Nov. 5, 4 p.m. at the Senior Center, 1500 Jefferson St., Napa. Sponsored by the Hermannsohn German Club of the Napa Valley.
CIRCLE OF FRIENDSHIP BRIDGE DINNER -- The Napa Circle of Friendship Bridge, a group of 22 local women who support a group of women in Guatemala, will be having their annual dinner Nov. 6, beginning with cocktails and a small silent auction at 5 p.m. with dinner starting at 6:30 p.m. at Ristorante Allegria, 1026 First St., Napa. $75, all proceeds go towards microcredit loans and educational scholarships for borrower's children in Guatemala. PIANIST GLEB IVANOV -- Napa Valley Symphony presents Russian pianist Gleb Ivanov, winner of the 2005 Young Concert Artists Audition, in concert to honor legendary pianist Ruth Laredo. Ivanov won first prizes at the 1994 and 1996 International "Classical Legacy" competitions in Moscow, the Laureate Prize at the 1997 Moscow International Festival for Young Soloists, and the prize for Best Performance of a Beethoven Sonata at the First International Vladimir Horowitz Competition in Kiev in 1995. NAPA HIGH GOLF TOURNEY -- The Napa High Sports Booster Club is holding its second annual Napa High Fall Sports Golf Tournament, Nov. 6 at the Napa Golf Course at Kennedy Park. $85 includes continental breakfast, 18 holes of golf and a buffet awards dinner.
