Val's Liquors robbed
A masked bandit robbed Val's Liquors, at 1531 Third St., making off with an undetermined amount of cash Friday night.
No injuries were reported.
The suspect implied he had a gun in his waistband by pointing in that direction after demanding cash, Police Sgt. Pat Manzer said.
The clerk, who was in the store alone at the time, about 7:45 p.m., handed over cash and the bandit walked out of the store.
He was last seen walking west on Third Street.
Manzer said the man was described as Caucasian, about 5-foot-10 to 6 feet tall, and of medium build.
He was wearing a blue baseball cap, gray or brown leather jacket, a hooded sweatshirt and dark denim pants.
He covered his face with a red bandana.
St. Helena crash update
Two St. Helena police officers and a Dublin motorist are recovering from injuries suffered in a Friday afternoon crash on Deer Park Road east of Highway 29.
All three were treated at Queen of the Valley Hospital, then released, a hospital spokesperson said.
According to the California Highway Patrol, officer Timothy Horvath, 27, was driving a marked police cruiser east on Deer Park Road when a sedan driven by 36-year-old John Kastner of Dublin pulled from the shoulder to make a U-turn, directly in the path of the police car.
Kastner and officer Chris Pacheco, who was a passenger in the police vehicle, suffered broken shoulders. Horvath complained of pain.
The CHP closed Deer Park road for more than an hour while they conducted an investigation.
