BENICIA -- A Benicia High School football player was in stable condition Monday after sustaining a severe concussion during a game, hospital officials said.
Robert Aton was catching a pass in the second quarter of Benicia's 28-14 win over Armijo High on Friday night when he lost his helmet and was tackled and hit on the head.

Aton was knocked unconscious and transported to Kaiser Medical Center in Vallejo, where doctors induced a coma, said his mother, Amy Aton.
Hospital officials said Monday that Aton was in stable condition and talking.

Examinations revealed no brain injuries, but his football season is over.
"I'm almost hoping they keep him comatose until the playoffs so I don't have to tell him," his mother said./AP
