Vallejo couple to pedal through town on way to wedding

Travelers along the Silverado Trail today may want to keep an eye out for a woman bicyclist in a white veil and garland, and a man on a bike in a tuxedo T-shirt -- they're not crazy, just in love.
Shane Rhodes, 33, and Melissa MacDonald, 34, of Vallejo, are taking the high road to their wedding, literally. The pair plan to leave their home this morning and pedal their way to their wedding site at Mayacamas Ranch, a few miles outside of Calistoga.
They plan to take the 45-mile-ride through Melissa's hometown of Napa and to Yountville, as well, where they will make a stop at Bouchon bakery to inspect the dessert they have created for their reception. From there they'll swing over to the Silverado Trail and up to Calistoga.
After a "refueling" stop in Calistoga, Rhodes and his bride-to-be will make the final 3-mile push up Petrified Forest Road to the ranch where they'll tie the knot.
In a time of high gas prices and increased environmental awareness, the couple is fitting their love of cycling with their love for each other by deciding to bike to their wedding.
"We also thought that this would be a good way to plant the idea in people's minds that they should get on their bikes more often," said Shane on Tuesday. "We're not sure where we are going to be stopping in Calistoga yet, but that's where we plan to stop and eat before we head up the hill to the ranch."
Melissa proposed to Shane during a ride in the Marin Headlands. After he accepted her proposal, the pair began their search for the perfect spot to hold their wedding celebration. One of the criteria was that the site was within cycling distance for themselves and their friends.
Several of their friends will be riding from the east and the North Bay on Friday and Saturday to join them in their weekend-long festivities. Other guests have been asked to carpool as much as possible.
They will swing back through town on Sunday when they return as husband and wife.
