Fairfield man arrested in Dry Creek slaying

Napa County Sheriff's Department deputies have arrested a Fairfield man in connection with the murder of Sandra Isabel Hernandez, 31, who was found shot to death in her Dry Creek Road home Sunday afternoon.
Several hours after the murder, deputies tracked the man, Onesimo Olmedo Garcia, 30, to a home he shared with his brother and sister-in-law on Kansas Street in Fairfield. They took him into custody without incident.
The shooting occurred at 5 p.m. at Hernandez's home on the 6200 block of Dry Creek Road.
Sheriff's Lt. Jean Donaldson said that Hernandez and Garcia knew each other, and that Hernandez rented a room inside the home.
"The victim was in the house with the suspect and there was another person who witnessed the suspect leave the house (after the shooting)," Donaldson said.
The witness called police. Napa's Major Crimes Task Force, comprised of investigators from the Napa County District Attorney's Office, Napa County Sheriff's and Napa Police Departments, swarmed the house while a police helicopter hovered above the area in search of Garcia, Donaldson said.
Donaldson said that drugs may have played a role in the shooting.
"I believe that's a possibility. We have to wait to see what the tox says," he said, referring to a toxicology report on the suspect.
He would not say what type of relationship Garcia and Hernandez had, saying only that the case was under investigation.
Solano County Sheriff's deputies said they could not find a criminal record on Garcia. He is being held at the Napa County Department of Corrections without bail. Garcia was on probation at the time of his arrest.
Hernandez's killing is the first murder recorded in Napa County in 2005.
